A Source of Magazines for Publishing

This page is intended to provide a list of Magazines that members have deemed as worth sending work into.

If you want to search for your own sources of magazines then the on-line database Duotrope would be a good starting point. If you are interested in story competitions then there is a list on the NAWG web site

It is hoped that this list will grow as members experience is collected

Writers' Forum

This is a monthly magazine with articles about writing. It runs a monthly short story competition. It costs (about £3 for a short story) to enter, but has prizes of £300, £150, £100 for !st, 2nd 3rd places. It takes stories of any genre and offers an optional critique (for an additional cost).

My Weekly

This is a weekly magazine which includes a few stories each week, but also produces a fiction special 4 times a year. At the moment it only accepts submissions from previous authors, but that may change. It is run by DCThomson and does not appear to have its own web site.

Magazines Available Through Subscription

Park Publications.

This produces 3 quarterly magazines. Scribble and Debut are short story magazines and Country Tales has a mixture of articles, poems and a few short stories. They cost £12 each for a years subscription. One subscription entitles you to free submission to any of the magazines. If you do not subscribe it costs £4 to send in a story.

A Long Story Short

Free submission, but no payment. they will take items that have been previously published. Regard this as a way to get you name spread around as they do include (with your permission) your email and web site details.
